Management Plan

The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (CRoW Act) requires local authorities to review Management Plans for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) every five years.

The AONB Partnership organisations sign a commitment to implement the plan, and agree to share a common vision for the long term care of the AONB.

The current Management Plan is available to download. If you would like to be posted a copy of the Management Plan please email us.

On Saturday 24 March 2018 John Grant, Environment section editor, wrote an article to launch the public consultation (PDF) of the 2018-23 Management Plan, summarising what the Plan sets out to do.

Whilst the name of Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was changed in November 2023 to Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, the legal designation remains the same and therefore for the purposes of planning and statutory work, the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB will continue to be used.

AONB Management Plan Addendum

Following the confirmation by order of the Secretary of State for the Environment the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB was extended on 7 July 2020.

This addendum is provided to the existing AONB management plan to cover the newly designated area and includes information on the purpose of the AONB designation, mapping of the extended AONB and Management Plan objectives.

It was endorsed by AONB Partnership members at its meeting on 11 December 2020.
