As part of the works for Sizewell C nuclear power station, the beach at Sizewell will be closed during the week for the construction of the Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF) from the 16th February to the 31st March 2026.
This raised platform will cross the beach into the North Sea to enable a large percentage of the construction materials needed for the power station to be bought in by sea. This will help to minimise the number of HGVs on the road network.
At weekends the beach will reopen from 06.00 on Saturdays to 22.00 Sundays for public enjoyment and the parkrun. The works are expected to be finished on the beach by the end of March.
Below is a notice which shows the inland alternative route. Those familiar with the area may question why the footpath Leiston 20 from Minsmere Sluice to Eastbridge has not been used.
The original plan was to use this path, however, it is subject to flooding in the winter and as such it was not possible to guarantee a comfortable passage on that route.
