Every September thousands of people across the UK head to the coast to take part in the Great British Beach Clean, a week-long citizen science event, where hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK.
The Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape team organises regular events throughout the year for our Beachwatch volunteers, with special events organised during the Great British Beach Clean every September.
We have two public events taking place for anyone to attend to lend a hand:
- Saturday 21st September – 9:30am – 11:30am – Shingle Street
- Saturday 28th September – 9:30am – 11:30am – Thorpeness Beach
Volunteers will survey of 100m sections of the beach, recording litter and waste that is found. If anyone wishes to stay on we’ll have lunch 12:00pm – 12:30pm and do an optional wider clean of the beach if needed from 12:30pm – 2:30pm.
All equipment will be supplied apart from gloves – please bring your own strong, washable and reusable gloves. Bring food and drink to keep you ‘fuelled up’ during the morning!
Bring warm clothing, comfortable footwear, and waterproofs depending on the weather!
For more information or any questions, please contact Countryside Projects Officer, Neil Lister, at [email protected].
